Mike has been with his 850+ Officer Police Department since 2004. He began his career as a patrol Officer and moved to a Street Crimes Unit after a few years. While assigned to this unit, Mike was the lead detective on numerous cases that included fugitive apprehension, covert stationery and mobile surveillance, undercover purchasing of stolen property andl low level narcotics, and responding to violent crimes in progress.
Mike moved to the full time SWAT team in 2011. His SWAT team is a National Tactical Officers Association (NTOA) tier 1 team that conducts 300+ operations per year. These operations include but are not limited to: High risk search warrants; Criminal barricades; Violent fugitive apprehension and tracking; Sniper overwatch on undercover operations and large-scale events; Community events; and Dignitary protections.
On top of the high paced real world operational tempo, the SWAT team conducts several nationally recognized tactical schools annually. These schools, in which Mike is a primary instructor, include a Basic 2 week long SWAT School, a week long Hostage Rescue Tactics (HRT) School, and both a Basic and Intermediate Sniper School.
Through the years in the Police Department, Mike has earned several Arizona Police Officer Standards and Training (AZPOST) Instructor Certifications. These certifications include: Firearms Instructor, Rifle Instructor, High Risk Vehicle Stop (HRVS) Instructor, and Acitive Assailant Response Instructor.
To stay current and proficient, Mike is a member of both the NTOA and the Arizona Tactical Officers Association (ATOA). Mike continues to build on his knowledge and experience by traveling both the country and state to attend additional tactical training and the NTOA and ATOA training conferneces.
Mike also serves as one of the departments’ lead instructors to both academy recruits and in service Officers. The training he provides includes active assailant response, building searches, immediate action team functions, HRVS and tactical responses to violent crimes in progress.
Mike is still currently serving in the U.S. Army Reserves as the First Sergeant of a Drill Sergeant Company. Mike is responsible for completing annual training calendars, coordinations of training locations, leadiing and mentoring US Army Drill Sergeants and oversight of Drill Sergeants serving in numerous Basic Combat Training locations across the country. Prior to his assignment as a Drill Sergeant, Mike deployed numerous times overseas and was last a Counterintelligence Special Agent conducting real world missions and investigations.
